Outcome Measures for Centers for Independent Living

An IL NET Resource Presented by ILRU

This page has been prepared by ILRU's IL NET, a collaborative project with partners at NCIL and APRIL. This page is designed as a resource for centers in identifying the outcomes they want to achieve, regularly measuring their progress, and using what they learn to improve their programs and to document their successes. If you focus on the outcomes you want to achieve, you'll put the primary emphasis where it ought to be - on the positive changes you want to see in your Center’s IL program and in the community.

Below are links to the on demand IL NET training and accompanying materials, originally conducted by ILRU and partners in September of 2011.

Some of the highlights of the training:

  • What an outcome is
  • What a logic model is and how a logic model is useful
  • Lessons learned from NCIL’s outcome measures field test
  • What challenges remain in measuring CIL outcomes
  • How to develop measurable indicators for these outcomes
  • How to identify sources, methods, and procedures to measure outcomes
  • Two main ways to use outcome information
  • Why it’s wise to focus on improvement, not reporting
  • Tools to help understand outcome findings
  • Steps to improve your CIL’s outcomes in the future

We want to ensure that all training participants are able to fully participate regardless of disability. We will do our best to ensure that all required training materials are highly accessible. At the same time, we realize that there are accessibility issues that may affect some materials that are on the Internet. While we will implement accessibility as much as possible, the wiki may include links to external sites that are not fully accessible. We will provide assistance where necessary to ensure that all participants can fully participate.
